Dear Friends,
Happy Valentine’s Day! The day brings more than one reason to celebrate, as it is also the first anniversary of my appointment to the bench! It was actually one year ago today that Governor Perry appointed me to be the judge of the 248th District Court. I recall very vividly the phone call, in which I learned that I would leave Crime Stoppers to fill the seat of a retiring judge. I was so excited, and told the Governor’s office that it was the best Valentine’s Day present that I have ever received! It has been a wonderful, productive year, and I continue to be honored to serve the citizens in Harris County in this role.
Bar Poll Results
The Bar Poll results are in! The annual poll of Houston’s lawyers conducted by the Houston Bar Association reflects that I am highly rated by the responding attorneys. Eighty-six percent (86%) of the respondents stated that I am qualified to hold this position, while a full sixty percent (60%) rated me “Well Qualified.” Thank you very much to all who responded. Your support is deeply appreciated.
In the Community
A few weeks ago, I was privileged to participate as a judge for the Mock Trial competition among our local high schools. The competing teams were well prepared and a joy to watch. Several of the high school students are clearly destined for legal careers in the future. Many thanks to Casey Garrett for including me as a volunteer judge at this event!
Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Thank you, again, for the opportunity to serve as the Judge in the 248th!
Best,
Katherine Cabaniss
